In getCITED, PREFERENCES refer to SEARCH
PREFERENCES.
The default setting for all search modes is to search the entire getCITED database.
SEARCH PREFERENCES focus your searches
more narrowly – limiting searches by PUBLICATION TYPE
, LANGUAGES and
DISCIPLINE
of publications that will appear in your searches. You can limit searches to
certain publication types or LANGUAGES,
and you can eliminate categories of
DISCIPLINES from searches.
For example, you may never be interested in anything about
Law. You can set PREFERENCES
so that your SEARCHES yield no publications
from that discipline.
Be careful about selecting search PREFERENCES; you may reduce the
thoroughness of your searches.
You can also
temporarily suspend PREFERENCES> you have set to allow for entirely unrestricted
searches of the getCITED database.
